Inside the World of a Yoga Therapist: Transforming Lives One Session at a Time.
So what does a Yoga Therapist like me, do?
Here’s a letter I wrote in response to a recent inquiry for one on one sessions.
Dear Client,
Starting off with a yoga and fitness program like this can prompt a lot of questions.
The first session would start with an intake assessment where I can get to know you. Variables such as your age, your current exercise routine, your physical health, and your well being goals would be discussed.
For example, if you have any injuries or are recovering from any recent surgeries, that would determine what kind of program I would develop for you.
Or if you have weight loss goals, or a specific challenge to your physical body - like lower back pain or even trouble sleeping, I can assist with that as well.
Yoga therapy is a provides a suite of healing modalities that can be used for a myriad of issues. It's why I love what I do! I love to see people get well, stay well and live well.
In my 15 years of yoga therapy experience, I have worked with people who have mobility issues and injuries, auto-immune disorders and cancer, to name a few. I have worked with people who range from 13 years old to 93 years old.
The value of working with any wellness professional one on one compared to working in a group fitness setting are numerous.
Here are just a few value added things I can provide.
1. Customized fitness routine to suit your wellness goals. We will build a working relationship where in I will get to know your body and what it needs to stay healthy and fit on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. That's what yoga is - a whole body wellness approach.
2. Zoom recording of each session so you may practice on your own. Practice doesn't end when the zoom class is over. You can refer to your customized recording whether it's for the physical practice or a recorded guided meditation to aid in stress relief or anxiety.
3. Goal setting, check-in's and completion. We will set realistic goals made for you, have regular check-in's to asses the goal, and set new ones as we work together.
4. Regular check-in's for progress. Assessment reminds us where we came from, where we are, and where we want to go. Consistent check-in's always keep an eye on the goal.
5. Accountability. Accountability is a big one. 90% of the work is done when the regular dedication and practice is there. Without this there is no progress. People have found many benefits to zoom classes for that reason. Instead of having to make time to drive to the fitness center, all you need are your work-out clothes and your computer.
Most people like the 45 minute zoom model as it's just enough time to get a session fit into their schedule for the day and not too long that it is too physically taxing or tiring.
